Martin v Bartop Final for Women's Singles

David Hagley, Tuesday, 8 May 2018

The semi finals of this year's Women's Singles Championship were played today and this coming Thursday morning will see Rhonwen Martin play last year's singles champion, Vicki Bartrop in the final.    Both Rhonen and Vicki had good wins over Judy Squires and Marion Pacey respectively.

In the initial match Judy got away to a good start over Rhonwen and after 3 ends led 4-1.  After the 6th she still held a 6-3 lead but unfortunately for Judy this was where the challenge ended and Rhonwen got away with a fine 25-14 win.    It was the multiples in the latter half of the game that cost Judy dearly.

In the second match, again the "challenger" got out of the blocks quickly and after a couple Marion had won the two ends to lead 3-0.    However Vicki won the next half a dozen ends and with a full 4 shot and a 3 within the count, when they went to the 9th the score had changed dramatically and Vicki had jumped to an 11-3 lead.    With bowls in the head, and Marion finding it tough to score, Vicki pulled away and ended the match with a handy 25-7 win.

This is the first club Singles final for Rhonwen, while Vicki will be chasing two on the trot.   Good luck to both women for Thursday's final.

......   and don't forget the women's 4s are playing their pennant knockout game against Dee Why at Harbord tomorrow morning.
